There Really Was a Baby in That Belly...

With the first of what we hope will be a lifetime of surprises, Nia Green Perry busted out of mom's womb 10 days early (8:06am on March 18th, 2009). At 6lbs 8oz and 19" long, Nia wasn't the largest newborn on the L&D block, but we're pretty sure she was the cutest, calmest, and most harmonious of them all. I know, I know, that was a bit trite; but really, what do you expect from fascinated, doting parents such as ourselves?

After two sleepless and exhilarating nights in the North Austin Medical Center post partum wing, we ventured home Friday afternoon. While Nia may have been oblivious to the transition, her parents marveled at the seemingly new world we entered with a 2-day old baby girl in tow. In a single moment at 8:06am on March 18th, our lives, perspectives, and priorities shifted as if struck by a bolt of lightning. I could never have been prepared for such an immediate emotional passage but who would want to be? After 9 months of anticipation, anxiety, preparation, wondering, and the plethora of emotions that "expectancy" brings with it, I now "get it". It all finally makes sense. Nia is the center of our world and we will forever treasure her.
