Beaten By Infant, Bilirubin Embarrassed, Runs Home to Mommy
It wasn't even close, really. Last night, Nia stepped up her game to a new level. Having just received word of her highest bilirubin measurement to date, Nia brought the hurt in a big way. Relegated to the PEP 2000 phototherapy bed all night, Nia's gameplan revolved around feeding, peeing, pooping, and sleeping. This rare form of neonatal mixed martial arts threw bilirubin into a tailspin. The final blow came when nia delivered one of her famous stink eyes (topic for a future post) around 8am.
We just received word that Nia's bilirubin is down to 12.0 mg/dL (from 18.7 mg/dL). Her jaundice is going away! We'll have her tested again in a few days but we're told we have nothing to worry about. Brooke and I are so relieved. It's great to have our daughter back from that weird blue man group training box. I hope we don't start finding small blue handprints all over the walls.
On a side note, our pediatrician was pleasantly shocked that we had Nia under the lamps for as long as we did. I guess most parents half-ass it and actually take breaks to do mundane things like sleep and eat. Pretty lame parents if you ask me. I once had a friend named sleep...we haven't hung out in awhile.

Tom here. Now that Nia is all good, Emma says share that dinosaur blanket, or else. (Hey, she's 1, there's no talking to her.)
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, we're happy that you're having a better day today. We'll see you soon, if you can find us amongst all of this paperwork and moving boxes.
Also, I told Kanye about your baby at SXSW, and he said that "she MAJOR!" Aw, yeah. ;-)
Hi Heath (and Brooke & Nia!)
ReplyDeleteHeidi sent me over this way and seeing beautiful Miss Nia I needed to comment. She's absolutely gorgeous (and even stronger and smarter...)
Give Nia a nice squeeze and kiss from me. Those early months go by so quickly....
