So, we had our 31 week visit to the doctor this morning. Everything was status quo... weight was good, sample was good, measurement was good (Peanut is measuring at 30-31 weeks so right on target).
The big shocker came when the nurse asked "So, has anyone told you to do the 3 hour glucose screen?" To which I replied "Um, no. I did the first screen (which requires only 1 blood sample after a 30 minute fast) and received a call that all looks good." Nurse says "Well, THAT was a mistake. Do you know who called and told you that?" at which point she looks in her computer... "oh wait, it was me. I called. Oops." Insert awkward giggle...hehe. Yeah, good one nurse.
Well, it turns out the lab's magic number to pass the screen is 40 and the OB's office just changed their magic number from 40 to 35. Guess what my number was. 36. 36! Just like in high school when I got a 74 on the math regents exam and had to go to summer school because I missed it by 1 point, but I digress.
So, next week I get to fast for 12 hours (not an easy task for a pregnant woman) drink sugary and flat orange soda, and proceed to get my blood drawn every hour for three hours. C'est la vie.

There should be no such thing as a sugar-free pregnancy!! Dessert is what keeps you from missing alcohol and sushi.
ReplyDeleteYour teachers must have been cruel people. I know for a fact that number fudging goes on when a student scores that close.
